From Rovio, the makers and creators of the beloved Angry Birds, comes Angry Birds Classic, the leader in the franchise. Find thrill as you eliminate the green pig squadrons and recover your eggs to ensure the survival of your species. The game is available for your iPad, iPhone, Google Android or Windows device.
The graphics are a clever use of 2D animation and transforming its use with modelled effects such as the structures tumbling down and the added visual effects. Additionally, the use of zoom camera in some versions of the game mixes the viewing experience nicely. The use of certain power-ups also spices up the visual experience. The graphics of Angry Birds deserve the mark 8 out of 10.
What is it about?
The game combines skill, force, and logic to execute well. The object is to eliminate the green pigs who have stolen the birds’ eggs. This is done by launching bags of birds at the pigs themselves or the structure housing the pigs and doing enough damage that all the pigs can be brought down. The birds are multicolored and have different abilities too, although usually, one starts with a set of red-colored birds. Using the slingshot, launch your birds at the green pigs directly or cause structural damage to their fortress to eliminate them. Bringing down all the pigs without using up all your birds wins you the game. You’ll also get hefty bonuses for any unused birds that you have.
The sling controls of the app are easy and intuitive, with a simple touch and drag mechanism, and rotation to get the desired trajectory of the bird projectiles. The controls are convenient and comfortable for anyone with a smartphone or tablet device to adapt, and the folks at Rovio also update these every few months.
Both the Google Play app for Angry Birds Classic, and its iOS variant are get free. The app, however, offers in-app purchases which you can use to get power-ups, such as the Mighty Eagle for $0.99, Shockwave Packs ($0.99-$3.99), and BirdQuakes ($0.99-$1.99). The game grows exceedingly, so it becomes challenging to play without these power-ups. In my opinion, gameplay’s score is 10/10.
To replay or not to replay
I keep replaying the game because there are many challenging levels and the developers certainly put a lot of creative effort in the app. The numerous power-ups and special abilities offered by both the Android app and iOS version unlock special abilities which make progress through the game enjoyable. I like the Sling Slope for laser targeting, the Birdquake, and King Sling power-ups. There’s lots of content on angry birds, and most of the power-ups are reasonably priced. The replay value’s score is 10 out of 10.
Is it good?
I’d recommend anyone who has a smartphone to get the app for Angry Birds Classic and would also caution any new players about its addictiveness. It’s easy to see why the game has millions of gets. I like the iOS version more though because of the regular updates they provide. The game has many series in its franchise so you’ll never get bored. The app has excellent gameplay although there is a quite number of ads on the latest version, maybe Rovio looking to cash in.
