Charm King is one of the leading match-3 and puzzle games, giving Candy Crush Saga a good run for its money with beautiful designs, numerous levels to keep the excitement going and riveting characters and game mechanics that keep you glued to your Android mobile, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
The graphics on this iOS and Android app are fluid and crisp, and the design stands out and distinguishes itself from other match-3 games, with a combination of 3D cartoon characters and a glossy 2D gameboard with a lot of color and perspective. The effects are stunning, and the background music also blends quite well with the overall theme of the game. The score is 10/10.
What Is It about?
The traditional gameplay of match-3 is maintained in this app for Google Android and iOS with a few different touches. Firstly, the game offers you an interactive tutorial through the first five levels of the game. These teach you everything you need to know about the game features such as the Magic Charm bar, how to form special charms and other useful features. Unlike other match-3s which take out adjacent cells, in Magic Charm, adjacent cells become enchanted when you match four or more charms, and these get you bonus points instead of merely exploding. The Magic Charm bar also fills up as you progressively move through the game, and this is important when you need to turn games around. The objectives of the game vary as you progress through the hundreds of levels, keeping the game exciting.
The controls are seamless and quite responsive, and there are no on-screen buttons with only text prompts to guide you. This is an app for every Android device (Android 4.1 or higher). The iOS version requires iOS 6.0 or later. The score is 9.5/10.
The game is free on the Google Play and App Store, but there are in-app purchases, i.e., Gold Packs ranging from $1.99-$49.99. While not explicitly necessary to make these purchases, you might need them when you get stuck in more difficult levels and when you want to unlock new regions before reaching the required scores.
Regular updates keep the app bug-free, and the latest version always comes with new levels added.
To Replay or Not to Replay
I would definitely replay Charm King anytime, and I’ve become a big fan of the game because it offers a different kind of match-3 experience. The fact that the mechanics are slightly changed from what players are used to is a significant factor. The developers suggest you goals to work towards, and the availability of boosters and other tools even without the need for in-app purchases is a major reason I’d replay the game. There are hundreds of levels to keep everything exciting too. The tutorials offered at the beginning of the game is a big plus. The score is 9.5/10.
Is It Good?
This is one of the best match-3 games I’ve ever played. Both, Android and iOS versions are very stable, and I haven’t had the app crash on my device so far. The mechanics are excellent, and the Google Play app works just as great as the iOS one. Instead of the regular, repetitive match-3 experience, this one is quite different. I highly recommend it.
